The Treasury sub-committee, chaired by Labour MP John McFall, has said that the merger would ‘improve compliance with taxation, reduce business’ compliance costs and reduce the government’s revenue collection costs’.

But, the support came with several warnings and called into question the combined department’s ability to maintain current service levels while cutting staff levels, as planned.
