In a speech at the Accountancy Age Awards, made while accepting a special prize for outstanding contribution to the profession, he fired angry shots at those who would seek to interfere in the standards-setting process.
‘We are at the verge of global standards, but we will only get one chance – and that is why it is important not to let Europe get in the way and try to destroy this,’ said Sir David.
He added that with the help of accountants, convergence was still a possibility.
