David Acland, a partner with the insolvency specialist, was reported to have been called in to help steer the club out of its dire financial straits.

The Inland Revenue has served a winding-up petition on the club, due to be heard at the High Court on November 17.

Last week HSBC froze the club’s bank account and its light faded – literally – when its electricity was cut off.

Crisis talks were being held today (Monday) between club officials, the Inland Revenue and HSBC.
