Matalan appoints former Asda FD
Discount clothing retailer Matalan has appointed former Asda finance director Phil Dutton to head its finances.
Discount clothing retailer Matalan has appointed former Asda finance director Phil Dutton to head its finances.
The ICAEW-qualified accountant will replace Ian Smith, who has been with the company 11 years and, as of next March, will take on the role of consultant.
Dutton, who led the integration of Asda and Wal-Mart’s systems at the time of the acquisition, is likely to lead the refurbishment of Matalan’s computer systems, seen by analysts as the retailer’s biggest weakness.
The appointment comes as part of a management reshuffle led by Paul Mason, who joined Matalan as chief executive from Asda in January.
Mason told the Financial Times the appointment was ‘a good management succession’ and he expected ‘a very smooth transition.’
