Beatrice Tollman accused of hiding $35m (£18m) from IRS
Beatrice
Tollman, the hotelier and friend of the Thatchers, has been accused of
hiding $35m (£18m) from the taxman and is fighting US extradition along with her
husband.
According to
The
Times, Tollman is accused of using secret codes to hide the money from
the taxman, while her husband Stanley is accused of taking part in a $90m fraud
against bankers.
Allegations against the couple were outlined by a lawyer representing the US
government at Horseferry Road Magistrates Court in London.
The Tollmans claim the UK should throw out the extradition claim for ‘abuse
of process’.
Legal arguments are scheduled to last until at least next March.
