Co-operative Bank and Shell win social reporting awards

The 'warts and all' approach of social reporting can be a 'painful experience' according to one of the joint winners of the UK's first awards for producing social reports.

Paul Monaghan, partnership development manager at the Co-operative Bank , made the comment as his company was made joint winner of the award along with Shell International.

Mark Wade of Shell’s sustainability development group said reporting was just the ‘tip of the iceberg’ and that it was the ‘performance’ underlying the report that was important.

Other winners in the awards include United Utilities as runner up and Traidcraft Exchange which took the award for best small company reporter.

The awards, created by ACCA, were presented by Kim Howells, the government’s first minister for corporate social responsibility.
