PBR 09: Net debt is at 56% of GDP

Darling flags up UK's net debt as a percentage of GDP is lower than neigbouring countries

The UK’s net debt as a percentage of GDP stands at 56%, an indicator of the
prudent approach taken by the government,Alistair Darling has said.

The figure would rise next year to 65% the Chancellor conceded before rising
to 78% by 2014/2015, but even at its peak it was much lower than other G7
countries.
