Firms score own goals with new fad

'It's a funny old game,' said football pundit Jimmy Greaves, but the Big Five seem to have taken football seriously of late.

Not satisfied with playing number one in professional services, Pricewaterhouse-Coopers last week jumped on the football bandwagon.

In an effort to erode Deloitte & Touche’s premier position in the soccer world, PwC signed a contract to manage the Football Association’s ‘Doomsday Book’ – a fancy directory of football pitches and facilities.

PwC isn’t the only one, as soccer supremos Deloitte & Touche and Andersen, both rumoured to have pitched for the FA contract, have published stat-packed books. Deloitte’s England’s Premier Clubs was published yesterday – a prelude to its top tome the Annual Review of Football Finances.

But if that wasn’t enough, Andersen released a study of players. TS is sure the football world was holding its breath for that one.
