The fire, ‘Madrid’s worst ever’ according to mayor Alberto Ruiz Gallardon, destroyed the 32-storey Windsor building, however, it is believed that the office was vacant at the time.

‘Most Deloitte professionals in Madrid will resume work on Monday,’ the firm said in a statement. ‘Deloitte has started researching several options for the new location of its Madrid office. The firm expects to resolve this situation in a few days.’

Seven firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and exhaustion resulting from the blaze.

Deloitte’s other 19 Spanish offices will continue ‘normal’ operations.
