BT has refocused its Tallis consultancy arm on the e-business area

The division, part of BT’s Syncordia services operation, will be renamed BT Consulting. It will provide business strategy planning and advice rather than technological guidance and BT claims it will be kept “strictly separate” from the products businesses.

Its main concerns will be the areas that Julian Garrett, head of the unit, believes are generally ignored by companies moving into e-business – business processes, emotional and organisational issues, and culture.

“Investing in e-business technology without a clear business goal could be one of the surest ways of losing money,” he said. “The message is clear yet often ignored – apply the technology to the business logic, not the other way around.”
