Speaking at a press conference, Van Buitenen said: ‘I can deliver my promises in this group. It will be a workable situation.’
He had held negotiations with the eurosceptic, Group for a Europe of Democracies and Diversities (EDD), but was deterred by the extreme anti-Europe position of members such as the UK Independence Party.
