The Inland Revenue website has received fierce criticism from IT service company Parallel, which said it was 'failing to perform'.
The company carried out a number of tests on the site last week and found that it was unavailable for 38 hours between 22 July and 29 July. ‘The Revenue site has once again shown to be failing to perform,’ said Tim Moore, Director at Parallel. The Revenue, however, asserts that the down time was a result of ‘routine maintenance’.
The Sobig family of computer viruses, which infected more PCs than any other last month, is striking fear into the hearts of IT departments. Anti-virus firm Sophos said Sobig not only spreads via email, but through other means as well, which ‘underlines the importance of keeping anti-virus protection up to date. Chain letters and hoaxes waste valuable email bandwidth and can scare people into panicking about non-existent virus threats.’
