Chairman and chief executive, Dinesh Dhamija, said that Healy would bring vital international expertise to the company.

‘Michael Healy brings with him top-class quoted-company skills in both UK and US GAAP, with extensive experience in investor relations, change management and corporate finance,’ he said.

Ebookers, which earlier this month announced more than 170 job losses in a cost-cutting drive, did not comment further on the reasons for Addison Smith’s surprise departure.

Healy will formally take over on 30 June, following a month-long handover period.
