M&A rises impressive 14% in UK

M&A activity picked up by almost 14% in value and volume in the third quarter, according to official figures. ONS figures showed that UK acquisitions by UK companies had increased by almost 20% compared to the second quarter.

Impacting the figures was the £1.1bn acquisition of Churchill Insurance by Royal Bank of Scotland from Credit Suisse. But despite the improvement, the figure was still 30% down on the same quarter of 2002. Foreign acquisitions of UK companies rose by 25%.

– Numerica Corporate Finance has advised on the reverse takeover of The Telecommunications Group by Cellular Holdings. The deal allows Cellular Holdings to complete the further acquisitions of Phone Direct Group, Anglia Telecom and Ventelo Group.

Numerica, led by Nick Weston, director and head of corporate finance north west, advised the shareholders and directors of Cellular Holdings on the acquisitions of Anglia Telecom and Ventelo Group. This involved negotiations on the terms of the reverse takeover of TTG and the provision of acquisition and working capital facilities.
