Accountant called 'the most powerful person in Hollywood' dies
Otto Spoerri, former head of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' accounting department takes his final bow
Former Oscars accountant Otto Spoerri, touted as ‘the most powerful person in
Hollywood’ has died.
For 14 years Spoerri ran the accounting department of the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences, the body which hosts the annual Oscars awards show.
He was called ‘the ultimate arbiter of industry power’ by the Wall St Journal
because he also devised the seating plan for the awards ceremony in addition to
adding up the numbers.
He passed away in his hometown of Zurich on Saturday.
