Former GUS finance director David Tyler has joined Sainsbury’s as chairman.
Tyler, who is also non-exec chairman at Logica and holds roles with Experian,
Burberry and Reckitt Benckiser, replaces Sir Philip Hampton in the role.
“Given his experience and background, David Tyler was the outstanding
candidate for the chairman role and we are delighted that he has agreed to join
Sainsbury’s,” said John McAdam, Sainsbury’s senior independent director, who led
the search on behalf of its nomination committee.
“The company is in very good shape under [chief executive] Justin King’s
leadership and I look forward to working with everyone at Sainsbury’s to help it
become even more successful,” said Tyler.
Tyler served as group FD at Argos and Experian business GUS for nearly ten
years between 1997 and 2006. He also held senior finance positions at
Christie’s, County NatWest and Unilever.
He is expected to spend between two and three days a week with Sainsbury’s
