Business incubators are best known for helping new economy start-ups realise their dreams, but as the dotcom clearout accelerates, incubators are helping bricks-and-mortar companies with their ebusiness strategies.
With venture capital funding scarcer and economic gloom spreading from the US, traditional companies offer incubators a second chance. Funding is less of a problem. And for an established company, the IPO exit strategy favoured by start-ups is not the only way out.
London’s Business Launch Centre is part of a network of Accenture-backed hubs bringing up the offspring of traditional businesses. Chief operating officer Eamonn Toland said old economy companies need incubators to help them rediscover risk-taking.
