Sage facing Multisoft reseller exodus
A leading Sage reseller has added Dataflow to its accountancy software portfolio and warned Sage to develop its Multisoft packages or risk losing its business completely.
The warning by Edinburgh-based John Richard & Co comes as it announced it was adding dataflow-32, the companies true 32-bit Windows accountancy suite, to its portfolio – providing additional competition for Sage.
The blow to leading accountancy software company Sage has fuelled fears Richard & Co may start a trend of mid-range resellers moving away from the Newcastle company.
Bill Marshall, John Richard & Co managing director, explained: ‘When Multisoft was taken over by Sage we were concerned that Sage did not know how to handle resellers that sold into market areas bigger than that of Sage Sterling.
‘Because we were unsure about receiving the right level of support, we decided to add another accountancy software product to our portfolio.
It is understood the reseller is unhappy that Sage has not developed its Multisoft Prestige or Premier packages and fears other products may leave them behind.
Marshall confirmed it was ‘debatable’ whether Sage was happy with the development. But he added: ‘If Sage does not update the Multisoft packages we may be forced to go elsewhere, although we wouldn’t take that decision lightly.’Dataflow managing director Dariush Mogtader, said: ‘The move at John Richard & Co reflects concerns in the Multisoft channel.’
Sage refused to comment on the announcement.
