Hunt on for new finance director at WH Smith

The company said headhunters had been employed to find a replacement who was committed to the newspaper and retail group for several years.

Hamill has been recently linked with several other jobs, and was reportedly lined up to become finance director of British Airways, an arrangement that fell through when the airline’s chief executive, Bob Ayling, was ousted.

He has been with WH Smith for four years, and will stay until the end of May. He is also reported to be receiving a pay-off in line with his one-year contract. His basic salary last year was £284,000. He is not thought to have any immediate plans.
