    Big business first in line for Revenue benefits

    A merger of the Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise will benefit big business first, according to David Varney, the soon to be chairman of HM Revenue and Customs.

    The departments that deal with large companies from both departments will be given early attention for integration in order to create a ‘one-stop shop’ for big business.

    Varney, the outgoing chairman of Mmo2, takes over at the new department in September. ‘We are looking early to see what scope there is for putting the two large business organisations together,’ he told the Financial Times.
