Microsoft will be a dominant player in the retail financial services industry within a decade, Mike Harris, deputy vice-president of internet bank Egg told the Finance Directors’ Forum. Harris – who also was CEO of First Direct – said the US software giant had the integrated technology in place to take on other financial giants.

Tesco.com, the world’s biggest online grocery store will be profitable by next year, according to FD Clare Swindell at the Finance Directors’ Forum. The web arm of the supermarket giant told the City it would be profitable in 2002 and Swindell told delegates it was on target.

Monster.com, the recruitment website, is planning to launch a dedicated site for senior staff later this year. ChiefMonster has already been pioneered in the US where it hosts around 54,000 senior CVs. Unlike the main Monster site, applicants are screened before their details are posted online to ensure they have the qualifications they claim.
