    Hundreds of Scottish National Party workers are flooding in to Ayr to back their accountant candidate in next week's Scottish Parliament by-election.

    Pundits say Peter Murrell is running a close second in what is a traditional Tory seat, claiming Labour’s support has collapsed since their maverick win last summer because of unedifying political infighting in Edinburgh.

    Murrel, a Chartered Accountant, began his campaign by visiting all the accountancy firms in the constituency.
