Confidence has fallen in both the business and professional and consumer sectors according to the CBI/Deloitte & Touche monthly service sector survey. The consumer sector has been particularly badly hit with business optimism dropping and volumes falling the greatest extent ever recorded and overall profitability falling for the first time in the survey’s history. Foot-and-mouth has had serious knock-on effects on sectors reliant on tourism and difficult times are ahead, says the survey.
