An all-party group of MPs has demanded that the National Audit Office should be given a key role in ensuring that any public private partnership for the London Underground offers value for money. The committee called for the government to provide evidence that any PPP is better than a conventional publicly-funded solution. The committee called on London Mayor Ken Livingstone to honour his commitment that if this is the case – essentially if it is better value for money than his favoured bond scheme – he will go ahead with a PPP.
