Neil Smith, the current deputy group finance director, will succeed him.

The resignation comes ahead of an expected announcement from Telewest on the agreement of main bondholders to the terms of its £3.5bn debt-for-equity swap.

Luiz’s decision to quit is part of a series of management changes at the cable company, which is in the final stages of a crucial financial restructure.
