Campaign to protect name of accountants steps up

The campaign to stop unqualified advisers from calling themselves accountants has been backed by 96% of Accountancy Age readers

The movement to secure protection has gathered momentum in recent weeks, with
a supportive early-day motion tabled in parliament and an online petition lodged
on the Downing Street website.

Speaking at the latest Accountancy Age web seminar, ACCA president
Richard Aitken-Davies said the main UK institutes were now working on a
campaign.

‘There are a number of people out there who are calling themselves
accountants who are not professionally qualified. An awful lot of them are not
measuring up to the sort of standards that clients would be reasonably expecting
from an accountant.’
