Taking Stock - Don't believe everything you read.

Unless you've been walking around with your eyes shut over the last month or so, you could not have failed to see the multi-million pound ad campaign by accenture, telling the world it is no longer Andersen Consulting.

As part of this campaign you may also have noticed adverts in the press with messages such as ‘Andersen Consulting transforms to accenture and dramatically enhances offerings’.

These messages were made to look as though they were cuttings from press news pages. However, TS can exclusively reveal the clippings are actually made up.

A spokesman for the firm, told Accountancy Age: ‘All of the statements were made up, they were our work. They are not statements of fact and we have not tried to back the statements, the idea was merely to display attention-grabbing headlines. The idea was to make the clippings look realistic.’

So if you were convinced accenture was getting acres of sympathetic column inches promoting the change in brand name, forget it.
