Administrators from Pannell Kerr Forster stood by yesterday as the last remaining assets of troubled catering enterprise The Fashion Café went under the auctioneer's hammer.
Administrators from Pannell Kerr Forster stood by yesterday as the last remaining assets of troubled catering enterprise The Fashion Café went under the auctioneer's hammer.
The corporate recovery and insolvency section of PKF has overseen the administration of the Caf‚ chain since October 1998 and the sale of designer outfits by Phillips Auctioneers represented the last phase of their work and an effort to raise money to pay towards administration costs.
Among the dresses were gowns once worn by super model Claudia Schiffer and a cocktail dress worn by actress Sharon Stone.
After entering administration in October 1998, the Fashion Caf‚ was eventually closed in January 1999.
John Alexander, PKF’s administrator of the Caf‚, said many of the dresses would represent substantial bargains.
‘The dress worn by Sharon Stone for example is estimated to fetch only between £100 and £200.
‘Having said that I am hopeful that some of the outfits fetch far in excess of their catalogue estimates as they represent a unique part of Britain’s recent fashion history.’
