KPMG in firing line over Leeds sale

League refuses to approve sale of football club to Ken Bates and launches enquiry into handling of administration

The sale of Leeds United to its chairman Ken Bates has fallen into chaos
after the Football League refused to sign off the deal brokered by KPMG.

In
a statement
, the League said it had failed to receive the required paperwork
and assurances from administrators at the Big Four firm over the club’s sale.

‘To date, no documentation regarding the sale has been submitted to the
League by the administrators,’ the League said.

A meeting of the League’s board on Thursday concluded it was concerned at the
handling of the whole process by KPMG ‘and the chairman was instructed to obtain
legal advice in that regard’.
