In the week it had one of its partners elected English ICA vice-president, PricewaterhouseCoopers has dealt the institute a serious blow with revelations it is joining the exodus to the Scots institute for training its students.

PwC reluctantly confirmed last week that it had advised its new intake of trainees in the Midlands, and a majority in London, to train with the Scots.

The news came out only a day after PwC partner Peter Wyman was elected English ICA vice-president, meaning that from this summer, two out of the three top institute office-holders will be from PwC.

In an attempt to stem the growing tide of firms switching students to the Scots institute, the institute reacted yesterday by announcing it will launch its new syllabus in September 2000

Kingston Smith, meanwhile, has been having far more fun, working with the Spice Girls on their court case against Aprilia, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer.
