Financial Director editor scoops top award

Sawers scooped the award at the PPA Awards for Editorial and Publishing Excellence, a glitzy bash held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

The 1,500-strong audience, packed with industry moguls, applauded his victory alongside journalists from internationally renowned newstand and business titles.

A tongue-tied Sawers said he was delighted to receive the award and proceeded to celebrate in style.

The judges said they were impressed by Sawers’ professionalism and editorial excellence and felt he made an outstanding contribution to the needs of UK finance directors.

Sawers has been editor of Financial Director magazine since 1997, previously he worked on Business Age and Accountancy Age. In his earlier career, he worked as a stockbroker with Phillips & Drew, now UBS Global Asset Management.

Sawers’ award is the 15th major shortlisting or award in major media competitions for Financial Director since he joined as editor.

His winning articles included an interview with the UK FD of British Nuclear Fuels, a detailed profile of the men behind the Maxwell scandal and an analysis of the issues facing the new chief exec of the London Stock Exchange, Clara Furse.
