Rake wishes Andersen partners 'well'

Mike Rake, KPMG's UK senior partner, says he wished Andersen partners well following the news they were to disappear into Deloitte & Touche.

Speaking in Japan, Rake told Accountancyage.com: ‘We were unable to reach an agreement on something that was acceptable to both sides – I wish the Andersen partners well.’

But the news that Andersen has chosen to merge with Deloitte instead of KPMG in the UK will have come as a blow to Rake, who as late as Monday maintained talks were still ‘constructive’.
