First accounting firm to offer such a scheme to employees and customers
Mid-tier firm Grant Thornton
has become the first accountancy and financial services firm to offer a
carbon
dioxide offsetting scheme to its employees and customers.
The firm said the scheme adhered to the latest proposals for government
standards to be implemented later this year.
Grant Thornton has teamed up with
charity PURE, the clean planet trust,
and has pledged to introduce its 25,000-plus clients and 3,200 strong UK staff
to the scheme which aims to offset carbon emissions.
Commenting on the initiative, Michael Cleary, CEO of Grant Thornton UK LLP
said: ‘We are proud to be the first in our industry to offer a carbon dioxide
offsetting scheme to our employees and customers while making every effort to
make our own carbon footprint a little less cumbersome.
‘While we continue to work hard to cut the amount of waste and, where
possible, the business miles we produce, offsetting carbon dioxide emissions is
a great way to walk the walk and give real evidence that we are a responsible
business that cares about its impact on the environment and on future
generations.’
