Pub operators are set to claim massive tax rebates from HM Revenue &
Customs following a landmark European Court of Justice ruling on VAT.
The ruling relates to tax rebates on VAT charges on gaming machine income
after the EcJ ruled that a German VAT law contravened the European Community
principle of fiscal neutrality by exempting gaming machines in casinos while
taxing those located in other establishments.
Pub owners are believed to be claiming between £8,000 and £10,000 per pub
thanks to the ruling claiming the exemption unfairly discriminated against them
and entitles them to claim the tax back.
