Prominent in his in-tray will be how best to present plans to members to adopt the compulsory inspection regime, practice assurance. Voting papers go out at the end of this month but the two-thirds majority needed to pass the measure remains far from certain.
McAdoo said: ‘I am very pleased to have been appointed and am excited by the prospect of championing the largest professional accountancy body in Europe.’
He replaces Brian Bannister, who left the institute last month to become director of public affairs at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
