UK businesses are less likely to appoint IT directors to the main board than their European counterparts, according to a study conducted by management and IT consultancy Cornwell Affiliates and executive research firm Norman Broadbent. Only 53% of UK IT directors said they were on the board, compared with 81% in Germany and a survey average of 61%. The survey of 4,000 organisations in France, Germany Spain and the UK showed a correlation between IT director representation on the board and IT strategy within corporate objectives, with 47% of UK respondents believing IT strategy was aligned to business strategy compared to 80% of German respondents.
