Green Budget: Fiscal rules will be met

Unveiling the green Budget chancellor Gordon Brown this afternoon told the Commons the government was able to meet its fiscal rules thanks to the current surplus and low debt.

He said that together with the US economy, the UK economy would continue to grow despite the economic slowdown.

Brown disputed critics claims saying Britain was well placed to deal with the slowdown.
