BDO marches in to Saints' audit

BDO wins footy club's audit work from Deloitte

BDO Stoy Hayward has won the audit work of Southampton Football Club from the
clutches of Deloitte.

Stuart Lisle, tax partner at BDO, told Accountancy Age that the win
was ‘indicative’ of the firm’s strategy of winning larger and more prestigious
clients from the Big Four.

But he denied that BDO was looking to win audit work and then provide
added-value services to its clients.

‘Our audit quotes are not designed to get higher margin work,’ said Lisle.

Lisle, who advised Southampton on tax for Deloitte in the past, added that he
expected BDO to hold the audit for at least three years before Southampton FC
tendered again.

Deloitte is reported to have served as the club’s auditors for the past seven
years.
