New head of Oxford University taxation think-tank says tax overhaul is on the way

Business should be prepared for profound changes to the tax system according
to Michael Devereux, the new head of the Oxford University Centre for Business
Taxation.

Devereux, a professor of economics at Warwick University, will lead the
centre’s work as it undertakes research on the direction of UK tax policy, with
a particular focus determining whether a cut in tax rates would boost investment
and productivity.

‘The relationship between tax revenues and and rates is far from
straightforward. It is not clear on which side of the line the UK is,’ Devereux
told the FT.
