Charges try to catch clubs

Commercial sports clubs must review their positions urgently before new legislation aimed at preventing VAT avoidance is introduced from 1 January 2000, Grant Thornton has warned. The changes are an attempt to catch clubs that have artificially changed their constitutions and accounting arrangements. But the firm said the rules could also catch non-profit making members’ clubs because the guidelines are too convoluted.
