KPMG develops email flu
Melissa, the Love Bug, Anna Kournikova and now, would you believe, respected international accountancy firm KPMG has an email virus named after it.
Computer security boffins were worried that Valentine’s day would see a resurgence of amorous email viruses.
But while romantic bugs were thin on the ground, staff at the Big Five firm were told to look out for a mail with the subject ‘IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM KPMG’.
In the event of receiving such a message, the firm advised employees to delete the lethal mail.
TS is sure this will come as a shock to staff used to enjoying reams of the firm’s important internal notices.
Picked up first in KPMG’s Hong Kong office, the electronic strain of Asian flu is nothing new, according to the firm. Apparently it’s an old type of virus, which has been renamed.
TS wonders if there are any former employees who had an axe to grind or whether this is the first blow in a commercial e-war.
