Oscar win for 'The Accountant'

Forget Halle Berry's 'Paltrowesque' acceptance speech at yesterday's Oscars - the big news was the profession finally shaking off its dull image, with 'The Accountant' winning the Best Live Action Short Award.

Written, directed and starring sole practioner Ray McKinnon, it’s good to see the humble beancounter being recognised for their talents and for having the ability to change a way of life.

For those who have not seen it, the 38-minute film, centres on an eccentric, hard drinking, chain smoking, backwoods accountant.

The central character is brought in to rescue a small farm steeped in debt, and in doing so, the eponymous accountant unravels a tale of ‘schemes and solutions’, brought about by a rival accountant.

As if such things happen in the profession! – could the timing have been any better?
