Carsberg given pensions role
Chartered accountant Sir Bryan Carsberg is to become the new chairman of the Pensions Compensation Board.
The former director general of Oftel and OFT, who has just completed a term as secretary general of the International Accounting Standards Committee, will take over from Dr Julian Farrand on 1 September.
Sir Bryan, who is also an honorary fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, will assess whether the sponsoring employer of an occupational pensions scheme is insolvent, whether its assets have been reduced through dishonesty and then decide on compensation levels depending on the age profile of pensioners.
The work of the PCB is financed through a levy on occupational pension schemes. Sir Bryan is not taking over Dr Farrand’s other job as pensions Ombudsman.
