Police reveal that arrested suspect had been under surveillance for several days

The letter-bomb suspect arrested yesterday has been named as 26-year-old
school caretaker, Miles Cooper.

Cooper is reported was under surveillance for several days before police
swooped on his home in Cherry Hinton near Cambridge at 3am yesterday morning.

He is being held at an undisclosed location for questioning in connection
with the seven letter bombs, sent to companies with ties to road enforcement
authorities.

One of the bombs exploded at tax and accounting firm
Vantis, used as the business address by a
client that involved in speed camera work.

Police began an intense search at Cooper’s home and have also searched the
home of his father in March, Cambridgeshire.

The
Times
reported that police moved computer equipment and are expected to
spend several more days at the three-roomed home where Cooper lives with his
mother and sister.

‘We had a significant breakthrough in the investigation at the weekend and
have had a suspect under surveillance. We believe this is a very significant
development,’ a police source said.

The extremist that sent the bombs also targeted the Driver & Vehicle
Licensing Agency in Swansea and the offices of a company that runs London’s
congestion-charging system.

The bombs were home-made pyrotechnic devices containing glass, with at least
one posted from the Cambridge area.
