Lord Wakeham looked set to face an ICAEW investigation after trade unionists complained about the former Tory energy minister's role in the Enron affair.
The Trades Union Congress, together with the US trade union federation AFL-CIO, has called on the institute to investigate the peer, saying he had breached its professional and ethical standards in his role as a director of the energy trading giant.
TUC general secretary John Monks said: ‘Lord Wakeham has some very hard questions to answer.’
Richard Trumka, the AFL-CIO secretary treasurer added: ‘His conduct as a director of Enron casts serious doubts about his ability to continue participation as a member of the ICAEW.’
However, an institute spokesman was unable to confirm whether a complaint had been received.
