New ICAS president Isobel Sharp will
promote the advantages of using professional judgment during her year in the
role.
Sharp, who succeeds Cairn
Energy chairman Norman Murray, intends to promote the importance of
ICAS members being more than just box tickers and to ‘seek the truth and
communicate that’.
Sharp said: ‘To be a CA is to be a professional, and the key theme of my
Presidency is to reinforce that message. Being a chartered accountant is not
simply counting the beans: it is about seeking the truth and communicating that.
But there are threats to our role, including that we are seen merely as
box-tickers.’
She is currently technical partner at Deloitte , and member
of the IASB.
