Byers gives cool response to Company Law Review
The government has held back from endorsing the proposals for awide-ranging reform of company law from the independent Company Law Steering Group.
Trade and Industry Secretary Stephen Byers said he ‘very much’welcomed the ‘important proposals to reform the law for smallcompanies and to streamline procedures for charitablecompanies.’
But he was significantly cooler on their recommendations oncorporate governance and the ‘stakeholder’ debate which hesaid ‘are likely to attract particular interest’.
Byers said: ‘There are differing views which are strongly heldin this area. I will follow the debate closely and reflectcarefully on the arguments put forward.’
