In his Budget speech today, he said he was setting aside £240m for international debt relief, including £100m pledged to the United Nations relief fund.

He said Britain had to lead the war against world poverty and promised to table a proposal for a £50bn annual fund to fund primary education in developing countries and to lead an overhaul of the EU aid policy.
The aim, he said, was to reduce world poverty by half by 2015.
