Smiths Group finance director Alan Thomson is to step down in September 2006,
and will be replaced internally by specialty engineering group MD John Langston.
Thomson, who took up the role in 1995, will stay on in a consultative basis
for a year after his retirement from the role.
Langston is a chartered accountant who has held a number of senior financial
roles in the manufacturing industry.
‘I am particularly pleased that, for the key role of finance director, we
have been able to identify an internal candidate of the quality and experience
of John Langston,’ said Smiths Group chief executive Keith Butler-Wheelhouse.
‘I am also pleased that we will continue to have access to Alan Thomson
during a consultancy period; this will allow a seamless transfer to John after
Alan’s distinguished service as FD is complete.’
