Efforts increased to placate Enron litigators

Crisis hit firm Andersen has intensified efforts to find deals with the US justice department and Enron litigators ahead of its trial next month.

Representatives of the firm in the US have attempted to hold negotiations with people close to the department in recent days.

The US business could face ruin unless it can resolve its indictment for obstruction of justice and settle billions of dollars of potential liability with Enron shareholders and creditors.

According to reports, people involved in negotiations are hopeful that officials may at last be willing to talk.
